Personal Story # 3
I ALMOST DIED MONDAY NIGHT
Jan. 17 at 7:12 pm - It was not fun
Sunday, after going over our policies, I left a message with my life insurance agent to have a meeting re: future plans.
Monday night, I was eating chicken as is my habit most days. I took a large bite as usual (my mother, then my wife have been complaining about that for about 63 years - men are slow learners and I did not understand English for the first year of my life), the piece was really hot and I took a sharp breath in (with no chewing). That was not a good idea!
About 3 seconds later I thought that it was all over (you hear those stories about life flashing before your eyes - they are true). The chicken was caught in my throat.
I motioned to Rachel (I could not speak) and I swear I saw the look of ' I know how much insurance he has' on her face. She did cross the room ANYWAY, performed the Heimlich - Maneuver on me and the piece of chicken emerged. OH MY GOD - what an experience!
I have to admit that I'm pretty sure she saved my life. I may have gotten it out but looking back on it - probably not. She is in health care and knew exactly what to do.
The days of complaining about her shopping are over, I guess.
